Does this sound familiar?

Science can feel difficult for very different reasons

Some learners need help rebuilding the basics. Others understand the content but struggle to apply it when a question looks unfamiliar.

“They understand it in class, but can't do it alone.”

Knowing the content is different from knowing how to work through a problem independently.

“They know the formula, but don't know when to use it.”

Memorising a method only helps when the next question looks exactly like the last one.

“One unfamiliar question completely throws them.”

Learners need practice identifying what is being asked and deciding how to approach it.

“They work hard, but still don't feel confident in science.”

Understanding why a method works can make the subject feel far less intimidating.

Tutoring Options

Support that fits the learner

Grade 10–12 Physical Science support, with the Impaq small-group programme at the heart of Cognitive Minds.

The Cognitive Minds Approach

More than learning which formula to use

Strong science results come from understanding what you are doing, reasoning through a problem and knowing how to apply what you have learned.

01

Understand

Learn what the question is really asking and understand why the method works.

02

Think

Develop the reasoning to work through unfamiliar Physics and Chemistry problems instead of relying only on memorised steps.

03

Apply

Use that understanding confidently when working through exercises, tests and exams.

MEET SUEGNÉ

Strong academic foundations. A passion for making science make sense.

Suegné Bates has been tutoring for more than five years, working with high school learners, homeschool students and university students.

With qualifications in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Psychology and Criminology, she brings both a strong science background and a genuine interest in how learners understand and process information.

Her aim is not simply to show learners which formula to use. She works through the science with them, helping them understand why methods work, analyse questions and apply what they know with confidence.
